A three-year-old British girl is fighting for her life in a Greek hospital after being found unconscious in a hotel pool on the island of Rhodes. The incident occurred at a hotel in Lardos, where the child was reportedly left unattended by her uncle.
According to police, CCTV footage showed the toddler entering the pool alone around midday. Approximately ten minutes later, a sunbather, believed to be a British doctor, spotted her in the water, jumped in to rescue her, and performed CPR until emergency services arrived.
The girl was initially taken to Rhodes Hospital in a critical condition before being airlifted to the University Hospital in Heraklion, Crete. Neurosurgeons operated to relieve pressure on her brain, and she remains in the intensive care unit. Michalis Sokorelos, director of Rhodes Hospital, stated that the child had 'obviously stayed in the water for a long time' and was 'not reacting at all' when brought in.
Police arrested the girl's uncle, who had been supervising her, and the travel agency manager responsible for hotel guests. Both appeared before the Rhodes District Court Prosecutor and have been charged. The UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office is providing support to the family and liaising with Greek authorities.
