A British man has died after becoming unwell during a hair transplant procedure in Istanbul. Martyn Latchman, 38, from Milton Keynes, was undergoing the preparatory phase of a £1,500 operation at the Dr Cinik clinic when he fell ill last week.
Latchman, a former teacher who left a 16-year career in education to work as a defence contractor, had previously undergone a successful hair transplant at the same clinic in summer 2024 and had returned for a second procedure.
Clinic staff administered immediate medical intervention and transferred him to a university hospital's intensive care unit, where he died later that day. Turkish media reported that police have launched an investigation into the incident.
The clinic, which counts former England footballer Rio Ferdinand among its clients, said all necessary medical evaluations were carried out before the operation and the patient was cleared for surgery. The cause of Latchman's sudden illness remains unknown.
Latchman's body has been repatriated to the UK. A Foreign Office spokesperson confirmed they are supporting the family and are in contact with local authorities. Tributes on social media from friends and family described him as a source of inspiration.
