Blackpill Lido to Reopen After Theft and Floor Repairs
Blackpill Lido Reopens After Theft and Floor Repairs

Swansea's Blackpill Lido will finally reopen on Tuesday, July 14, after a series of setbacks that kept the popular family attraction closed since May 26. The lido was shut when temporary fencing was erected after flooring came away in some areas, following an earlier delay caused by the theft of four stainless steel water fountain sprinklers on April 19.

Details of the Setbacks

The theft of the sprinklers prompted a police investigation, with officers appealing for information. Swansea Council then had to address the flooring issue, which further extended the closure. The lido, located on the seafront, has been missed by families, especially during periods of intense heat.

Reopening Plans

Swansea Council confirmed that necessary works have been completed. A statement read: "Re-opening tomorrow, come on down and enjoy your city’s much-loved Blackpill Lido. New sprinklers have been installed, flooring has been repaired and your Blackpill Lido will be opening again on Tuesday at 10am." The lido will be open from 9am to 5pm daily until the end of September, with no booking required.

Council Official Comments

Council cabinet member for development Andrew Williams said: “We’re delighted that our much-loved and much-missed lido is re-opening on Tuesday. Thank you to everyone for your patience and understanding. We were as frustrated as anyone by the theft of the sprinklers and the problems with the flooring. But now it’s all fixed and ready to welcome families back to enjoy free splash days on the seafront this summer.”

Additional Amenities

The Junction Café next door will also be open from 9am to 5pm daily, offering more options for visitors. The lido provides free access, making it an affordable option for families during the school summer holidays.
