As December unfolds, festive traditions like markets and ice rinks may already be checked off your list, but there's still time to experience the magic of a Christmas train ride. From carol-singing carriages to visits from Santa, these journeys offer a dose of Yuletide cheer far removed from the daily commute.
The British Pullman offers a 1920s-themed round trip from London Victoria through the Kent countryside. With a champagne reception, five-course festive lunch, and a jazz stop at Dover Priory, tickets start at £585 per person. Meanwhile, the Watercress Line in Hampshire features an illuminated steam train with LED wristbands, live entertainment, and a trolley service on two-hour return journeys from Alresford or Alton.
In Norfolk, the Norfolk Lights Express departs after dark from Sheringham, passing 10 light installations on a five-and-a-half-mile round trip.
