Benidorm Hotel Ceiling Collapse Leaves Seven Injured on Easter Sunday
At least seven people have been injured after a hotel ceiling collapsed in Benidorm, Spain, during Easter Sunday lunchtime service. The incident occurred at the Poseidón Palace, a popular three-star hotel frequented by tourists in the Costa Blanca resort.
Chaotic Scene as Plasterboard and Ducts Fall on Diners
Sections of plasterboard and air conditioning ducts crashed onto approximately 60 guests who were dining at the hotel. Emergency services, including SAMU medical units, basic life support teams, and non-assisted transport crews, rushed to the scene. Red Cross personnel assisted in caring for those affected amidst the chaos.
Among the victims were an eight-year-old boy and a 78-year-old man, both of whom were taken to hospital but later discharged after receiving treatment. Five other individuals, aged between 33 and 80, were hospitalised, with one currently under observation at Hospital de la Marina Baixa, according to local media reports.
Cause of Collapse Remains Unclear Amidst History of Incidents
At this time, the reason for the collapse at the Poseidón Palace is still unclear. However, this is not the first such incident to have plagued the Benidorm hotel scene, raising concerns about safety standards in the area. Benidorm attracts around 900,000 British tourists annually, making it a primary destination for UK holidaymakers in Spain.
The Mirror has contacted Poseidón Palace for comment but has not yet received a response. The incident highlights ongoing issues in popular tourist resorts and underscores the importance of rigorous safety inspections.
