The family of a Welsh woman who died after falling from a hotel balcony in Benidorm has described her death as a 'tragic accident'. Donna Sharp, 48, from Barry in the Vale of Glamorgan, fell 15 floors from the Aquarium II hotel in the Playa de Levante area on Sunday, 14 November.
Her daughter, Angel Sharp, 25, who also lives in Barry, told BBC Radio Wales that the news 'blew me away'. 'Nothing can prepare you for that phone call, nothing,' she said. 'I don't think I'll ever get over it, never.'
Ms Sharp had been on holiday with her partner and returned to the hotel room early on the last night to start packing for the journey home. Some time later, she fell to her death. Police are investigating the circumstances, but the family do not believe there was any foul play.
The family has been in contact with the British Consulate in Spain and has been informed that a post-mortem examination was carried out on Monday. They hope Spanish authorities will release Ms Sharp's body in the next day or two so they can bring her home for a funeral in Barry.
Angel said she had told her four-year-old son about his grandmother's death. 'She was the most amazing nan I could have ever asked for,' she said. Donna's mother, Patricia Sharp, added: 'She just wasn't my daughter, she was my best friend too... Everybody loved Donna.'
