A growing trend sees British travellers jetting off on whirlwind 'extreme day trips', spending just 24 hours exploring a destination before flying home. The phenomenon is driven by a thirst for adventure and the appeal of overseas travel without the high cost or need for overnight stays.
The Top Destinations for a One-Day Adventure
Commissioned by ground transportation company Mozio, a new study has pinpointed the best European cities for such a fleeting visit. The analysis scored locations based on flight time and cost, estimated airport transfer duration, and the number of local restaurants and attractions.
Barcelona emerged as the clear winner, scoring an impressive 9.13 out of ten. An average round trip to the vibrant Spanish city costs approximately £242. With a remarkably short 25-minute transfer from the airport to the city centre, visitors maximise their exploration time. Barcelona boasts a staggering 10,448 restaurants and 6,109 listed things to do, ensuring a packed itinerary. The climate is a major draw, with an average temperature of 15.5 degrees and around 2,500 hours of sunshine annually.
Affordability is key, with examples like a return flight from London on February 7 found for just £33 on Skyscanner. The average hotel night, should one be needed, is around £155. From Gaudi's architecture to world-class museums and tapas bars, a day in Barcelona promises non-stop action.
