An American travel enthusiast has shared his confusion after visiting Benidorm for the first time, finding the Spanish resort heavily influenced by British culture. Kalani, who has more than 3.3 million followers on TikTok, visited the coastal city after recommendations from British friends and documented his trip in a series of videos.
Despite warnings that the destination was "like Blackpool with more sun", Kalani said he agreed the famous Strip matched that description, but found it overwhelming. "For me, I could probably only do about one night on the Strip, it's just too much for me," he said. "That's not really my scene anyway."
However, he praised the Old Town as the highlight of his holiday, particularly Tapas Alley, where he enjoyed authentic Spanish food and a "really cool atmosphere". He suggested that those who dismiss Benidorm may not have explored this area, which offers a less "in-your-face" experience than the Strip.
During his visit, Kalani was also left puzzled by locals repeatedly asking him if he wanted "Charlie". Viewers quickly informed him that "Charlie" is a common nickname for cocaine. He also spotted a vending machine selling "pleasure products", a drunk woman driving a mobility scooter with a man holding on behind, and the famous Sticky show.
Despite the oddities, Kalani concluded: "But you know what, I'm having a great time. I think it's really beautiful, great views. The other part of Benidorm, I'd have to do in very small doses." He encouraged others to experience both sides of the resort for themselves.
