Major UK retailers including Asda, Sainsbury's and Next have issued urgent product recall notices this week, with shoppers being told not to use certain items due to potential health concerns.
Asda and Sainsbury's snack recall
Skinny Crunch Light Peanut Butter Bars have been withdrawn from Asda and Sainsbury's stores after they were placed in Skinny Whip Toffee bar packaging, which fails to list peanuts as an ingredient. This means the product presents a possible health hazard to anyone with a peanut allergy.
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) stated: "Halo Foods Ltd is recalling the above product and has been advised to contact the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall."
It added: "If you have bought the above product, do not eat it. Instead, return it to where you bought it from for a full refund." The affected bars have a pack size of five x 20g, batch code 6238 (08:30 - 10:30), and best before August 2027.
Salmonella warning on eggs
UK homes and businesses have been put on alert after Salmonella was discovered in eggs originating from Yasensvit Ltd, Ukraine, which are stamped with the code 3UA1012066. The FSA has urged that all affected eggs be withdrawn from sale and not eaten.
The FSA stated: "All eggs with the code 3UA1012066 should be withdrawn from the market and recalled from consumers. These eggs should not be consumed. Consumers should check the code stamped on the egg; do not eat eggs stamped with 3UA1012066. Instead, dispose of them at home."
These eggs are not sold in large retailers, like supermarkets. Most are used within the catering supply chain; however, some eggs may also be sold at small shops such as corner shops. Common symptoms of Salmonella include fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps.
Next shoe recall over injury risk
Mint Velvet's Raya Espadrille Wedge Sandals, available through Next, have been withdrawn from sale due to a potential injury hazard. The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) stated: "The product presents a risk of injuries as the footbed can become detached from the wedge heel during use."
It continued: "The product has been recalled from end users by Next. Next has contacted consumers who purchased the heels directly. Owners are advised to stop using the product and follow the instructions sent by Next to arrange for a refund or replacement." The affected models are Y79431 and Y79434.
