The world's first Bluey rollercoaster has opened at Alton Towers' CBeebies Land, themed around the fan-favourite episode 'Here Come the Grannies'. The ride, called 'Bluey the Ride: Here Come the Grannies!', takes visitors on a colourful and surprisingly fast journey through Bluey's backyard, complete with characters dressed as mischievous grannies Janet and Rita.
Manchester Evening News reporter Dianne Bourne and her children, aged 10 and 6, were among the first to try the ride on opening day. She described the experience as 'bonkers', with techno beats from the episode 'Dance Mode' playing as the coaster hurtles through the sky. Her six-year-old laughed throughout, exclaiming 'I love it' and 'I really love it'.
The ride features scenes from the show, including Muffin as an angry grannie on a mobility scooter, Dad Bandit mowing the lawn, and Mum Chilli raking leaves. While the coaster is designed for pre-schoolers and young families, adults may find it thrilling too, with plenty of daring up-and-down circuits.
CBeebies stars George Webster and Evie Pickerill officially launched the ride, alongside celebrities such as Emmerdale's Matthew Wolfenden, Coronation Street's Catherine Tyldesley, and TOWIE stars. The queue area includes Bluey-themed play areas and photo opportunities, such as bouncers, a play ramp, and 'fairy rings' that children must avoid stepping on.
The ride has already proven popular, with long queues forming as soon as the park opened to the public. Alton Towers has created these interactive queue elements to keep young fans entertained while waiting for the coaster, which has a height restriction suitable for young children.
