Manchester United are set to sign teenage goalkeeper Kit Margetson from Swansea City this summer, as the club looks to bolster its youth ranks with top British talent. The 19-year-old shot-stopper is the son of Martyn Margetson, the well-known former head of goalkeeping for England, Wales and Swansea City. The elder Margetson left his coaching role in South Wales at the end of last season, meaning both father and son are embarking on new chapters in their careers.
Physical Attributes and International Pedigree
Standing at 6ft 4in tall, Margetson possesses the ideal physical attributes to dominate his penalty area at the elite level. His height and athletic build have enabled him to shine throughout his youth career and attract interest from top-flight recruitment teams. He represents Wales at Under-21 level and has progressed steadily through his nation's junior ranks, with standout displays on the international stage cementing his reputation as one of the most promising young goalkeepers in British football.
Loan Spell and Scouting Interest
Although he never featured in a competitive first-team fixture for Swansea, Margetson gained crucial senior experience last season during a highly successful loan spell with Connah's Quay Nomads in the Cymru Premier. He made 34 appearances, kept 10 clean sheets, and played a pivotal role in the Welsh side's qualification for European competition. United's respected goalkeeping scout, Tony Coton, was seen watching Margetson closely in March during a match against The New Saints.
Contract and Compensation
Margetson is set to become a free agent this summer, having initially joined the Swansea City academy at Under-15 level. While the Championship club stated in May that they were engaged in talks over new terms, discussions broke down, opening the door for United to secure his services.
