Trump Mobile's T1 Smartphone Gets a Redesign, But Launch Date Remains Elusive
New renderings of the upcoming "T1" smartphone from Trump Mobile have been unveiled, showcasing a gold-colored device with a more conventional vertical camera layout. This marks a significant departure from the triangular design that was initially revealed last year, raising fresh questions about the phone's progress toward market release.
Shifting Timelines and Ambiguous Origins
The company, co-founded by Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, has listed the phone at $499 on its website. However, any indication of a specific launch date has been removed, replaced instead with a prompt for potential customers to "Join the Waitlist." This represents a notable shift from the initial announcement in June 2025, when the "Proudly American" phone was introduced with expectations of an August release. Since then, the launch has been delayed multiple times, and a firm shipping date is still nowhere to be found.
Furthermore, Trump Mobile appears to be quietly walking back earlier assertions that the phone would be "Made in the USA." Those claims have been replaced with broader language emphasizing that the device is "designed with American values" and supported by "American teams." This change follows Eric Trump's initial announcement on Fox Business in June, where he stated, "You're not calling up call centers in Bangladesh − do it right out of St. Louis, Missouri, and you're going to have phones that are made right here in the United States of America," adding that it would include a domestic call center.
Regulatory Scrutiny and Consumer Concerns
In January, a group of 11 Democratic lawmakers, led by Senator Elizabeth Warren, requested the Federal Trade Commission to investigate Trump Mobile over concerns about potential "deceptive or unfair business" practices. The lawmakers specifically highlighted issues regarding the company collecting $100 deposits from customers who pre-ordered the T1, despite the device not being released at that time. They also questioned whether consumers were misled by suggestions that the phone was manufactured in the U.S., given reports indicating it is likely produced overseas.
The lawmakers had requested a response from the FTC by February 15, but reports indicate they have not received one. The Independent has reached out to both Trump Mobile and Warren's representative for comment, but no statements have been issued at this time.
Beyond the T1: Additional Offerings and Services
Aside from the T1 smartphone, Trump Mobile also provides other devices, including "renewed" models from Samsung and Apple, and allows customers to bring their own phones to its network. Central to this offering is the "47 Plan," priced at $47.45 per month. This plan includes unlimited talk, text, and data, with the first 20GB at high speed before potential slowdowns, and is marketed as offering nationwide coverage comparable to major carriers.
The plan comes bundled with several extras, such as international calling to more than 230 countries and territories, device protection, roadside assistance, and telehealth services through partner providers. These features aim to position Trump Mobile competitively in the crowded telecommunications market, despite the ongoing uncertainties surrounding its flagship T1 device.
As the company continues to navigate these challenges, consumers and regulators alike are closely watching for any developments regarding the T1's launch and the veracity of its marketing claims.
