Nazariy Rusyn, the Sunderland striker who has struggled to make a significant impact at the Stadium of Light, has revealed that he has not ruled out staying with the Premier League side. The Ukrainian forward, who joined from Zorya Luhansk in September 2023, has made 32 appearances for the Black Cats but has been sent out on loan to Hajduk Split and Arka Gdynia since January 2025.
Rusyn's Loan Spell and Future Plans
During his loan at Arka Gdynia, Rusyn scored four goals in 25 matches for the Polish club last season. He will now return to Sunderland and must sort out his future this summer. Reports from Ukraine link him with FC Karpaty Lviv, who were also interested in the winter transfer window.
Speaking to UKR Football in Ukraine, Rusyn addressed the speculation: “I don’t know. I’m not dealing with that issue, so I can’t say anything specific right now. For now, I’m waiting for my contract with Arka to end, which expires on June 30th.”
Pre-Season Return and Contract Situation
When asked about concrete interest from Karpaty, Rusyn clarified that he will return to Sunderland for pre-season. “Nothing is yet known. My agent is in talks with Sunderland. I don’t have any specific information yet. I only know that I have to be in Sunderland on July 4, because that’s when our training camp starts. So, I’m flying to England on July 1.”
The attacker has not ruled out playing under manager Régis Le Bris next season. “Yes, of course [staying at Sunderland]. I’m not ruling that out. I still have a year left on my contract with Sunderland. Right now, the main thing for me is to fly to England. We’ve applied for visas for my children, and once I’m there, we’ll see how things go.”
