Royal Mail Delivery Delays Hit 82 UK Postcodes

Royal Mail Issues Widespread Delivery Delay Alert

Royal Mail has released a fresh service update, alerting customers across the United Kingdom that deliveries in 82 specific postcodes will not arrive on schedule today. The national postal service, which typically aims to deliver letters and parcels six days a week, has confirmed that some mail has been held up due to operational challenges.

Transport Network Disruptions Cause Delays

While Royal Mail's air network operated according to plan over the past 24 hours, issues with its road service have led to significant delays. A vehicle transporting mail from the Edinburgh Mail Centre arrived later than scheduled at the Midlands Parcel Hub, impacting deliveries from several Scottish postcode areas.

Affected areas include:

  • DD postcode areas
  • EH postcode areas
  • FK postcode areas
  • KY postcode areas
  • PH postcode areas
  • TD postcode areas

Mail from these regions destined for London, the South East, the South West, and parts of Wales may arrive later than planned. Additionally, not all mail was processed or dispatched on schedule at the Romford Mail Centre, affecting deliveries from E, IG, and RM postcode areas to other parts of the UK.

Local Delivery Office Challenges

As of Tuesday, March 10, 2026, 82 postcodes are experiencing delays nationwide. Thirty delivery offices are impacted, including locations in major cities and towns such as Glasgow, Oxford, Sunderland, Bristol, and Pontyclun.

Royal Mail explained that in a small number of local offices, temporary issues are preventing normal service delivery. These challenges include:

  1. High levels of sick absence among staff
  2. Resourcing difficulties
  3. Other local operational factors

The postal service stated: "We aim to deliver to all addresses we have mail for, six days a week. In those cases where this is temporarily not possible, we will rotate deliveries to minimise the delay to individual customers. We also provide targeted support to those offices to address their challenges and restore our service to the high standard our customers would normally receive."
