Google has unveiled the Pixel 11 Pro and Pixel 11 Pro XL, equipped with a new rear LED notification system called HiLight, a feature not available on any iPhone or Samsung Galaxy. The phones are available for pre-order now and go on sale from August 20.
HiLight LED notification panel
HiLight is a circular panel around the camera flash, packed with LEDs that glow when alerts arrive. Users can leave the phone face down on a desk and still see incoming calls. Different colours can be assigned to contacts, allowing users to identify who is calling without checking the display.
HiLight also integrates with Google's Gemini assistant, using LED patterns to indicate when Gemini is listening, thinking, or responding. Google says more features are coming, including alerts from friends and family. Nothing's Glyph Interface, a similar rear LED notification system, has been available on its smartphones for some time.
Tensor G6 processor and camera upgrades
The Pixel 11 series includes a new Tensor G6 processor, promising up to 20 percent better power efficiency, 25 percent faster browsing, and 15 percent quicker app loading. The chip also powers advanced on-device Gemini experiences, such as finding restaurants and checking calendars.
The rear camera system has been revamped with a 50MP main sensor, 48MP ultrawide with Macro Focus, and a 48MP telephoto lens with Pro Zoom. Google says the new system delivers better zoom and improved night shots. A new Magic Capture mode records events and automatically edits the best photos for sharing.
Display, design, and pricing
Other upgrades include displays with up to 3,600 nits of peak brightness, all-day battery life, and faster charging. Pixelsnap technology returns, using magnets to hold the phone on compatible wireless charging stands. The design has been refreshed for 2026, with a smaller camera bump and tougher build, featuring Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and an anti-scratch shield.
The 6.3-inch Pixel 11 Pro starts at £1,079, while the 6.8-inch Pro XL costs £1,279. A cheaper Pixel 11, priced at £879, includes the Tensor G6 chip, refreshed design, more colour choices including Hibiscus pink, and improved cameras, but lacks the HiLight notification system. All three models are available to pre-order now and will be on sale from August 20.
