Nico Raskin has helped fire Belgium into the last eight of the World Cup, and that has seen transfer interest in the Rangers star swell. But Gordon Hendry, Ochiltree, believes there is one way Derek McInnes can convince the playmaker to stay at Ibrox while simultaneously solving a problem of his own.
He called into the Hotline to say: "As a Rangers fan, there seems to be an ongoing debate amongst my fellow supporters regarding Nico Raskin's future at Ibrox. Derek McInnes has the answer in his own hands. Don't sell him - build the team around him - and after his World Cup performances, make him our new captain! What would it cost us to buy his equivalent in the current transfer market? Enough said. Hope you are listening Derek."
Celtic's Pre-Season Draw Sparks Fan Reactions
Celtic kicked off their pre-season schedule with a 1-1 draw away to League of Ireland side Shelbourne. The reaction to that result has Benjamin Clarke, Balornock, convinced that fans on the other side of the city are obsessed with his club.
He said: "While the World Cup is coming to the crucial stage, Chris Lowe is more concerned about champions Celtic's training games. Don't be concerned, you'll soon get to see the real Celtic become champions again, with the help of no one."
The Hoops are poised to confirm their first signing of the summer with the £6million capture of Qarabag striker Camilo Duran, but it hasn't stopped Hotline regular Gordon Ashley from coming under fire for his confident claims about the Parkhead giants' power in the transfer market.
Alan Flett wrote: "It's not a question of, is (Martin) O'Neill a yes man? He is a yes man! I said on Hotline a few weeks ago that O'Neill was the cheap and easy option and I've been proved right. Every year, Gordon Ashley tells us that Celtic are going to blow everyone else out of the water with their spending power. And every year his club make him look like the fool that he is. Camilo Duran? They'd be better off with Duran Duran!"
Celtic Fans Defend Club's Ambitions
George Wilson, West Sussex, added: "Once again Gordon Ashley proves my point that he is not capable of making any comment on here without it being about Rangers. I'm beginning to think that he isn't a Celtic supporter after all, as all his posts on here are about Rangers. He must think about us constantly."
But Robert McEwan, Mount Vernon, is in no doubt that the champions will build on their Double triumph last season. He commented: "What is it with people thinking Martin O'Neill is going to walk away from a team that's just done a Double? We are going to be stronger from last season and six in a row is on the cards."
Duncan Ferguson Impresses on World Cup Punditry
Scotland crashed out of the World Cup weeks ago, but former Dark Blues striker Duncan Ferguson has remained Stateside on punditry duty. The ex-Everton and Rangers target man is now set to head home, but his chat on the telly has left Jim McClean, Rothesay, mightily impressed.
He emailed to say: "I was never a fan of Duncan Ferguson but what a breath of fresh air he has been on the World Cup panel. No airs and graces using his normal Scottish tongue, he is the one that talks a lot of sense and has fun with it. Brilliant."
