Mercedes-AMG GT SUV: Electric Performance with 500-Mile Range
Mercedes-AMG GT SUV: 500-Mile Range, Supercar Speed

Mercedes has unveiled a high-performance electric SUV that blends family-friendly practicality with supercar-rivalling speed. The all-new Mercedes-AMG GT SUV offers space for the whole family while accelerating from 0-62mph in less than three seconds.

Aerodynamics and Battery Technology

The SUV is equipped with clever aerodynamic features, including a rear spoiler that automatically deploys to improve stability through corners, and active front flaps that open and close to optimise cooling and airflow.

Power comes from Formula One-inspired battery technology, delivering more than 500 miles of range on a single charge. Rapid charging can add around 300 miles of range in just 10 minutes.

Sound and Feel of a Petrol Performance Car

Mercedes has developed technology to make the electric SUV sound and feel more like a petrol-powered performance car. AMGFORCE Sport+ technology recreates the soundtrack of AMG V8 engines, pumping the sound through the cabin and adapting it in real time to the driver's inputs, including acceleration and simulated gear changes.

Pedestrians and other road users will hear a convincing V8-style roar from outside the vehicle. Inside, the seats vibrate in sync with the soundtrack to add another layer of drama.

Performance Controls and Interior Features

Drivers have controls that can boost power and switch off traction control. The AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL+ suspension uses active pitch and roll stabilisation, while rear-axle steering improves agility through tight corners.

Inside, a curved display sits in front of the driver, while a separate screen gives front passengers access to apps, games, music and more. The centre console features carbon-fibre styling and houses the AMG RACE ENGINEER Control Unit, with three rotary controls for throttle response, cornering behaviour and slip characteristics.

A panoramic glass roof with SKY CONTROL technology floods the cabin with natural light and can change its appearance at the touch of a button, including a sportier red AMG setting. Practicality includes generous rear space, a sizeable boot and a front boot, or frunk.

Three Models and Pricing

The new electric SUV range comprises three models: the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 SUV, GT 55 SUV and GT 53 SUV. Prices are expected to start at around £110,000.

“With the new Mercedes-AMG GT SUV, we're bringing the groundbreaking innovations of our AMG.EA architecture to a full-size SUV,” said Jörg Burzer, Mercedes-Benz Group AG's Chief Technology Officer. “Powered by three pioneering axial flux motors and a revolutionary high-voltage battery, we're setting a new benchmark in the electric SUV segment. We're demonstrating that electric performance today no longer requires any compromises in sustained power, range or charging speed.”

Stefan Weckbach, Chairman of the Management Board of Mercedes-AMG GmbH, added: “Our customers will experience the Mercedes-AMG GT SUV as a vehicle that, for the first time, uniquely combines two worlds: the practical advantages of a full-size SUV with maximum space, comfort and versatility, alongside the emotional sports-car character of a genuine AMG. The key to this lies in the high-tech from Affalterbach. In short: SUV by shape. GT by nature.”
