Manchester United are closing in on their first signing of the summer transfer window, with teenage goalkeeper Kit Margetson set to join from Swansea City on a free transfer. The 18-year-old will become a free agent after his contract with the Championship side expires, following the breakdown of extension negotiations.
Margetson's Background and Move to United
Margetson has been with Swansea since under-15 level but failed to make a first-team appearance for the club. He gained senior experience during a loan spell at Connah's Quay Nomads last season. According to BBC Sport, United plan to integrate him into their under-21 squad.
Goalkeeping Overhaul at Old Trafford
United are expected to reshuffle their goalkeeping department this summer. Andre Onana is set to join Trabzonspor on loan for a second consecutive season, while Altay Bayindir is likely to depart in search of regular first-team football, having fallen behind Senne Lammens in the pecking order. The club has also been linked with a move for Leeds United's Karl Darlow as a deputy to Lammens. Tom Heaton, the third-choice keeper, has signed a new contract, stating: "It is a huge honour to continue to represent Manchester United. You can feel the determination and ambition of everyone throughout the club to keep pushing for success."
Further Transfer Activity
Should the Margetson deal be finalised, he would become the first arrival under manager Michael Carrick. United are also reportedly closing in on a £35 million move for Atalanta midfielder Ederson.
