Manchester United are edging closer to securing a long-term replacement for Marcus Rashford, with West Ham winger Crysencio Summerville emerging as the primary target. The 24-year-old Dutch international, currently at the World Cup, has impressed with two goals and an assist in two substitute appearances for the Netherlands.
Rashford's uncertain future
Rashford's ambition of a permanent transfer to Barcelona has fallen through, leaving his immediate future unclear. Neither party is keen to continue their partnership, and another loan to Barcelona is off the table. The England international, 28, will seek a new club this summer, with a price tag of approximately £40m and wages of £325,000 per week posing obstacles.
United have blocked Rashford from joining Manchester City or Liverpool, while Arsenal have distanced themselves. Tottenham remain interested, but Rashford prefers another move to Europe.
The Summerville deal
Summerville, valued at around £50m, has no release clause in his West Ham contract. His price could rise if he continues to shine for the Netherlands in North America. Paris Saint-Germain are also monitoring him, potentially as a replacement for Bradley Barcola.
For the transfer to proceed, West Ham – who were relegated – need to find a replacement. They have registered interest in Brighton's Amario Cozier-Duberry, a 21-year-old who spent last season on loan at Bolton Wanderers, helping them secure promotion via the League One play-offs. According to The Athletic, West Ham are frontrunners for Cozier-Duberry, and a switch to the Championship would represent natural progression.
Impact on United's plans
If West Ham secure Cozier-Duberry, it would pave the way for United's pursuit of Summerville. United are not alone in their interest, with PSG also reportedly tracking the winger. Summerville could add to his World Cup tally on Friday when the Netherlands face Tunisia, who have already been eliminated after heavy losses to Sweden and Japan.
For now, Rashford is focused on earning a starting spot for England's Group L finale against Panama, having come off the bench in the draw with Ghana.
