Manchester United and Chelsea have made approaches to sign Eduardo Camavinga after Real Madrid's asking price was revealed. The French midfielder has been heavily linked with a move away from the Bernabeu since Jose Mourinho's return as manager was confirmed.
Camavinga's Declining Influence at Real Madrid
Camavinga, 23, was once one of the most important players at Real Madrid but his influence has declined over the past two seasons. Mourinho is keen to bring in multiple midfield players this season, most notably Bernardo Silva – who has already joined from Manchester City – and Chelsea's Enzo Fernandez. However, Mourinho is aware he must also move on some unwanted players to make room for the incoming signings and deems Camavinga as surplus to requirements.
The Frenchman is contracted to Madrid until 2029 and has an unattainable 1 billion euros release clause in his current deal. But Real Madrid have put Camavinga up for sale this summer in agreement with Mourinho, according to Spanish outlet SPORT.
Interest from Premier League Giants
The Spanish giants are aware of interest from PSG, who missed out on Camavinga back in 2021 when he left fellow Ligue 1 side Rennes. But it is claimed Premier League giants Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool have also made contact with Real Madrid to discuss deals. In response, Madrid have slapped a 60m euros (£52m) asking price on Camavinga and hope to spark a bidding war for the unwanted star.
Real Madrid are also aware that a summer deal is by no means guaranteed, however, as Camavinga is said to be desperate to stay put and believes he can still revive his career at the Bernabeu. Camavinga is trying to take the positives out of his France World Cup snub, privately believing that it will give him the opportunity to win over Mourinho in pre-season. The midfielder is hoping to add to the 223 appearances he has made for Real Madrid but Mourinho does not appear to be willing to change his mind.
Manchester United's Midfield Plans
Manchester United have expressed interest in Camavinga as they search for further midfield reinforcements for new permanent boss Michael Carrick. Brazil's Ederson will become the first signing of the Carrick era in a £35m deal from Atalanta, but at least one more midfielder is expected to arrive at Old Trafford. Elliot Anderson, Adam Wharton, Sandro Tonali and Carlos Baleba are all of interest to the Red Devils but they are also considering a move for Camavinga.
Chelsea's Interest Under Xabi Alonso
Chelsea are also looking at midfield targets for incoming boss Xabi Alonso, who worked with Camavinga during his brief spell in charge of Real Madrid. 'I think Eduardo Camavinga would be fantastic at Chelsea,' ex-Stamford Bridge defender Frank Leboeuf told BoyleSports. 'What he did for Real Madrid was absolutely exceptional because at the time that he came, you had Casemiro, you had Toni Kroos, and it was hard to play. Camavinga did very well and won so many titles that he has the experience and he's a great young guy working hard. Camavinga and Moises Caicedo would be a fantastic pairing.'
