A 45-year-old driver crashed into a packed restaurant in the Greek town of Evosmos, Thessaloniki, in the early hours of Sunday, injuring three patrons. Video footage captured the vehicle speeding into the establishment while diners were present.
The footage shows the car backing up after the collision as diners, armed with chairs, ran towards it. A breathalyser test administered at the scene reportedly showed that the driver was under the influence of alcohol. The driver was arrested at the scene, and the three injured patrons were rushed to hospital.
Flowerpots prevented more casualties
Large flowerpots placed around the establishment prevented the vehicle from striking more customers. The owner of the restaurant said she left the store a few minutes before the accident and rushed back as soon as she heard about it.
"If we didn't have planters, we would have funerals," she said. Describing the scene, she added: "I saw terror and panic, it was like watching a movie."
