Manchester United could be about to inflict yet more transfer misery onto Newcastle, even if they don’t sign Lewis Hall this summer. It’s been an off-season to forget for the Magpies, with several big names having departed St. James’ Park. Anthony Gordon got the ball rolling with his move to Barcelona, while Sandro Tonali (Barcelona), Bruno Guimaraes (Arsenal), and even manager Eddie Howe followed.
Newcastle determined to hold firm
The turnover has been vast, but the North East outfit are determined to stop the brain drain and reject any further advancements for their star men. That includes Hall, who has been identified by United as a potential long-term option at left-back, but the Geordies are having none of it. They’ve deemed him not for sale, with suggestions the only way United would be able to get him out of Newcastle is by offering way above his usual market value.
United eye Lamine Camara
However, that doesn’t mean United can’t land a transfer blow on Newcastle this summer, as it’s being reported the Red Devils are interested in Lamine Camara. The midfielder, who has shone for Monaco in Ligue 1, is also being courted by Newcastle, as they look to replace Tonali and Guimaraes in the middle of the park.
Camara has been credited with having immense work rate, allowing the 22-year-old to cover all areas of the pitch, as well as a mature reading of the game. He’d be a boost to Newcastle’s squad, but if United formalise their interest, it’s difficult to see how they compete with the Red Devils’ transfer pull.
Formal enquiry submitted
It’s reported by Football FanCast that United have submitted a formal enquiry to find out the conditions of a deal for Camara. Talk of a price is yet to properly materialise, but there are suggestions a fee in the region of £65million could get Monaco to consider their options.
United have been busy in the midfield department already this summer, with Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans having joined the 20-time Premier League champions. But it’s claimed Michael Carrick is still keen to add one more midfielder to his ranks.
The Old Trafford outfit had been linked to Ederson from Atalanta earlier in the window, but a deal for the Brazil international collapsed. They’re said to have explored Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni without much luck, while the likes of Sander Berge, Alex Scott, Adam Wharton and Tyler Adams have emerged as more realistic options for Carrick and co.
