Manchester United have received a significant boost in their pursuit of Aurelien Tchouameni, as Real Madrid are now reportedly open to a major sale in midfield this summer, according to reports in Spain.
United's Midfield Targets
The Red Devils have already secured a deal to sign Brazil international Ederson from Atalanta for £35 million. However, manager Michael Carrick is keen to add another midfielder to his squad ahead of the new campaign. Talks have commenced regarding a potential move for Mateus Fernandes, but United are reluctant to meet West Ham's £80 million valuation. Tchouameni has also been on United's midfield shortlist for the summer transfer window, though the move was initially considered difficult as Madrid had given no indication of a willingness to sell.
Madrid's Shift in Stance
According to AS, Madrid's hierarchy have softened their position and are now open to making a significant sale in midfield this summer. The report suggests that Tchouameni, Eduardo Camavinga, and Federico Valverde are three players who could be offloaded before the start of the new season. Tchouameni recently played in France's 3-1 win over Senegal at the World Cup on Tuesday.
Financing New Signings
Madrid are open to a sale in order to finance Jose Mourinho's request for a new box-to-box midfielder. Mateus Fernandes and Chelsea's Enzo Fernandez are both admired by Mourinho, and Madrid are currently in talks over a move for one of these options. The club has already significantly bolstered Mourinho's squad with the signings of Marc Cucurella, Bernardo Silva, and Ibrahima Konate. Inter right-back Denzel Dumfries is also set to join Madrid after the club agreed to pay his €20 million (£17.3m) release clause.
