Liverpool have officially opened their summer transfer window with the signing of Spain international Victor Munoz from Osasuna for £34.5m, triggering his release clause. Real Madrid will receive 50% of the fee. Munoz underwent his medical in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where Spain are based for the World Cup.
Forward Line Remains Priority
Paul Gorst, Liverpool FC correspondent, believes Munoz's arrival does not address the need for another forward. With Mohamed Salah's departure and Hugo Ekitike's ruptured Achilles, Liverpool require more attacking options. Yan Diomande of RB Leipzig remains a key target, offering pace and power on the wing. Gorst notes that Diomande is not a direct Salah replacement but could thrive alongside £125m striker Alexander Isak.
Midfield and Defence Also Need Attention
Mark Jones, Liverpool Content Editor, praises the swift Munoz signing but stresses focus on Diomande. The Ivory Coast international is impressing at the World Cup, and PSG's interest could spark a bidding war. Jones urges Liverpool to keep the deal a priority.
Richard Garnett, Central Audience Sport Content Editor, calls for multiple reinforcements. He wants two new full-backs to challenge Milos Kerkez and Conor Bradley, suggesting Jeremie Frimpong could get a chance but prefers a specialist right-back. Garnett also advocates for an experienced centre-back to support Jeremy Jacquet and Giovanni Leoni, allowing Virgil van Dijk rest. Finally, he desires a midfield enforcer to break up play and distribute to attackers, which may lead to exits of some big-name stars.
