Liverpool's summer transfer activity is accelerating under new manager Andoni Iraola, with the club set to confirm the departure of midfielder Luca Stephenson while Jeremy Jacquet officially begins his Anfield career following a £60 million transfer.
Stephenson Close to Bolton Move
Luca Stephenson, a 22-year-old academy graduate, is nearing a £700,000 switch to Championship side Bolton Wanderers. The midfielder, who joined Liverpool from Sunderland in 2018, has yet to make a senior appearance for the Reds despite featuring in the last two pre-season campaigns. He spent the past two seasons on loan at Dundee United, where he won both the supporters' and club's Young Player of the Season awards despite an injury-shortened second stint.
Jacquet Begins Training
French defender Jeremy Jacquet, 20, officially started pre-season training on Wednesday after completing his £60 million transfer from Rennes. An agreement was reached in January, but Jacquet remained on loan at Rennes for the rest of the season. He suffered a shoulder injury after returning to France but has now been cleared to train.
Upon arriving at Anfield, Jacquet expressed his ambition to contribute to Liverpool's trophy haul. "I saw all the cups and trophies, just how many there are, and I thought 'wow, I really want to be part of the history of this club'," he said. "I was just thinking that I want to bring back many more of them." He added: "It's a legendary club and the football philosophy appealed to me directly, and with my family I believe we made the right choice."
Iraola's First Month
Iraola, appointed last month, has already secured Liverpool's first summer signing in Victor Munoz. However, several key players have departed, including Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson, and Ibrahima Konate, though all three exits were decided before Iraola took over from Arne Slot. The Spaniard's squad is beginning to take shape as pre-season training commences.
