Liverpool Transfer Update: Thuram Target Reemerges, Jones Deadline Set
Liverpool Transfer News: Thuram Targeted, Jones Deadline

Andoni Iraola is wasting no time in the transfer market as he looks to strengthen his squad during his first window in charge at Liverpool. The Spaniard has been at the helm for fewer than three weeks yet has already secured his first recruit, with Victor Munoz set to arrive at Anfield.

The Premier League giants confirmed the signing of the Spain international on Thursday after triggering his £34.6million release clause to lure him away from Osasuna. With one name ticked off the wishlist, Iraola and the club's hierarchy are pressing ahead in their pursuit of further reinforcements as he looks to bring silverware back to Merseyside.

It is not solely arrivals that are anticipated at Liverpool, however, as speculation continues to mount over potential departures following the exits of Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson and Ibrahima Konate. We examine the latest transfer developments surrounding the Reds.

Jurgen Klopp target revisited

Liverpool's midfield proved a significant contributing factor to their alarming dip in form this season, with Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister notably struggling to replicate the standards they had set during the previous campaign.

According to Italian publication Corriere Dello Sport, the Reds have registered an interest in Juventus midfielder Khephren Thuram. The 25-year-old is a familiar name to Liverpool supporters, having previously been linked with a move under Jurgen Klopp during his spell at Ligue 1 outfit Nice.

The France international has been instrumental for the Italian giants during his two-year spell at the club, but missed out on Didier Deschamps' World Cup 2026 squad earlier this month. Standing at 6'4, Thuram's physical presence and ability to contribute at both ends of the pitch could prove a valuable asset.

With Iraola poised to bring his high-energy, high-pressing style to Anfield, considerably more dynamism and athleticism will be required in the centre of midfield if the Spaniard's philosophy is to have any chance of flourishing.

Curtis Jones deadline set

Inter Milan's pursuit of Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones stretches back to January, and the Serie A champions have renewed their interest in the 25-year-old this summer. Sport Witness previously reported that Reds sporting director Richard Hughes held talks with Inter counterpart Piero Ausilio to negotiate a potential deal for Jones.

It is understood that the two clubs remain apart on their valuations, with Inter submitting a £17m bid while Liverpool have placed a £26m asking price on their academy product. The gap has not deterred Inter, however, with Gazzetta dello Sport claiming that once they conclude a deal for Atalanta star Marco Palestra, they will turn their attention to Jones - though they are keen for him to complete a move before their pre-season training gets underway on July 16.
