Jurgen Klopp has declared Liverpool target Yan Diomande one of the best wingers in the world, as the Reds intensify efforts to secure the second signing of the Andoni Iraola era. The 19-year-old RB Leipzig star, who can play on either wing, is reportedly valued at around €100 million (£87m) this summer as Liverpool looks to replace club legend Mohamed Salah.
Klopp's Praise Ahead of World Cup Clash
Speaking as a pundit for MagentaTV alongside Bayern Munich legend Thomas Muller before Ivory Coast's Group E meeting with Germany at World Cup 2026, Klopp said: "Diomande is one of the best wingers in the world right now. He is unstoppable in one-on-one situations. Nobody defends Diomande for 90 minutes." He added: "You have to position yourself so that Yan has to move into the middle. And that's where the support is."
Klopp, who left Anfield in 2024 and now works as Head of Global Soccer for Red Bull, has firsthand knowledge of Diomande's abilities. The Ivorian teenager faced Klopp's native Germany in the match, setting up Ivory Coast's opener before a stoppage-time defeat.
Liverpool's Transfer Pursuit
Liverpool has already completed Victor Munoz's transfer from Osasuna, and Diomande's arrival is next on the agenda. Reports from Germany indicate that new head coach Iraola is keen on the player, with Liverpool having submitted an initial offer that was turned down. It remains to be seen whether an improved bid will follow, especially with Paris Saint-Germain also showing interest. According to The Athletic's David Ornstein, PSG will only pursue Diomande if he signals a desire to join, but the Ligue 1 champions have confirmed their interest.
Diomande's Impressive Form
Diomande scored 12 goals in his first Bundesliga season this term, attracting attention from top European clubs. He was substituted for former Arsenal winger Nicolas Pepe in the second half against Germany. Speaking to Bein Sport, Diomande expressed openness to a Premier League move: "Would I be open to the Premier League? I don't know. I am an RB Leipzig player, but why not? My agents will sort that out. As for me I am more focused on the World Cup, that's the most important thing."
The teenager's performances have justified the hefty price tag, with Klopp's endorsement adding to the hype. Liverpool fans will be watching closely as the World Cup unfolds, hoping for a positive resolution to the transfer saga.
