Jaecoo Unveils Flagship 8 SUV as Premium Range Rover Competitor
Jaecoo has significantly expanded its presence in the United Kingdom automotive market with the official launch of its new flagship model, the Jaecoo 8 SHS-P. This luxurious SUV introduces three-row seating configurations and advanced hybrid technology, marking a bold step for the brand as it aims to compete directly with established premium rivals like the Range Rover.
Pricing and Availability Details
The new Jaecoo 8 is positioned as a high-value alternative, with starting prices significantly undercutting its competitors. The seven-seat Luxury variant begins at £45,500 on the road, while the six-seat Executive model starts from £47,500. Order books are now officially open, with the first customer deliveries anticipated to commence from May 2026.
This strategic pricing places the Jaecoo 8 at less than half the cost of many comparable luxury SUVs, capitalizing on the brand's growing reputation for delivering Range Rover-inspired styling at a substantially more accessible price point.
Seating Configurations and Interior Luxury
A key innovation for Jaecoo is the introduction of both six- and seven-seat layouts within the same vehicle model. The seven-seat Luxury version is designed with family practicality in mind, offering flexible passenger and cargo space alongside multiple ISOFIX child seat mounting points.
In contrast, the six-seat Executive model prioritizes premium comfort, replacing the traditional second row with two heated, ventilated, and massaging captain's chairs. The driver benefits from extendable thigh support, while a "Boss Button" allows rear passengers to adjust the front passenger seat for increased legroom.
The interior is equipped with dual 12.3-inch displays, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, and cooled wireless charging pads. A 14-speaker Sony sound system includes headrest-integrated speakers for personalized audio delivery of navigation instructions or phone calls.
Advanced Hybrid Powertrain and Performance
The Jaecoo 8 utilizes Chery Group's latest Super Hybrid System plug-in hybrid technology. This system combines a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with a three-speed DHT transmission and all-wheel drive, generating a combined output of 422bhp and 580Nm of torque.
Performance figures include a claimed 0-62mph acceleration time of 5.8 seconds. The plug-in hybrid system enables up to 83 miles of electric-only driving range, with a combined total range exceeding 700 miles when the battery is fully charged and the fuel tank is full.
Charging capabilities support fast DC charging at up to 40kW, allowing the battery to recharge from 30% to 80% in approximately 20 minutes. A 6.6kW vehicle-to-load function is also included, enabling the SUV's battery to power external electrical devices.
Off-Road Capability and Safety Features
To reinforce its positioning as a genuine Range Rover rival, the Jaecoo 8 incorporates serious off-roading technology. This includes lockable differentials—a first for the Jaecoo brand—working alongside an adaptive all-terrain response system.
The SUV boasts a wading depth capability of up to 600mm and features continuous damping control adaptive suspension designed to maintain stability across various surfaces. Safety is emphasized with 10 airbags and up to 19 driver assistance systems, including autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and blind spot detection. The vehicle's body structure utilizes up to 85% high-strength steel.
Brand Strategy and Market Context
Victor Zhang, UK Country Director for Jaecoo, commented: "This is the first time we're offering both a six- and a seven-seat configuration within a single model, ensuring the Jaecoo 8 is suited to a wide range of use cases. As our flagship and halo model for the UK, it showcases what Jaecoo stands for—modern design, advanced hybrid technology, and genuine all-road capability in a premium, usable package."
The Jaecoo 8 joins the existing UK lineup, which includes the Jaecoo 7 and smaller Jaecoo 5 models. The brand reported strong sales of 28,232 vehicles last year, with nearly 7,000 units sold in the first two months of 2026 alone. All Jaecoo vehicles come with a seven-year or 100,000-mile warranty, supplemented by an eight-year or 100,000-mile warranty specifically covering the battery.
