The developer behind the first Halo game to launch natively on PlayStation has taken a subtle dig at Sony's controversial decision to cease physical disc production for PlayStation games in 2028.
Halo Campaign Evolved Confirms Discs for PlayStation
In a Q&A blog post on Halo Waypoint, senior community manager John Junyszek addressed a question about whether the retail version of Halo: Campaign Evolved would include a physical disc. He responded: "Yes! Buying the Xbox or PlayStation version of Halo: Campaign Evolved at your local retailer will result in getting the physical game case and disc so that you have tangible items to add to your collection."
The phrase "tangible items" appears to be a pointed reference to the backlash Sony has faced from fans who lament the loss of physical media collections. Sony announced it will stop manufacturing physical discs for PlayStation games in 2028, prompting many gamers to cancel PS Plus memberships and boycott PlayStation consoles.
Game Not Fully on Disc Despite Physical Release
Despite the disc inclusion, Halo: Campaign Evolved will still require a download to play the full game. The disc serves as a collector's item for those who prefer physical copies, even if the game is not entirely contained on it.
Halo: Campaign Evolved is a remake of the story mode from the original Halo game released in 2001 on the original Xbox. It launches on July 28, 2026, and will be available on both Xbox and PlayStation.
Early Access and Handheld Support
Junyszek also confirmed that the game is Steam Deck verified and Windows Handheld Optimised, making it playable on handheld devices. Buyers of the Premium or Collector's Editions will get five days of early access starting at 8am PDT on July 23, which is 4pm BST.
