Gatwick Airport is launching a robotic parking service that will allow passengers to drop off their cars near the South Terminal and keep their keys while robots park the vehicles securely.
The service, which is expected to begin next month, involves passengers leaving their cars in dedicated garages. Robots will then lift the cars by the tyres and move them to secure parking spots. Drivers can head straight to catch their flights, with their keys in hand throughout their trip.
How the robotic parking works
The system, developed with Stanley Robotics, is designed to work for around 95% of car models. However, drivers with "unusual dimensions or features" are advised to check beforehand.
Oli Bedford, Gatwick's head of airport access, described the service as a "real game-changer", adding: "It's quick, easy and completely hassle-free."
Convenience for travellers
On return, passengers will find their cars ready and waiting for collection. The drop-off points are a short walk or bus ride from the terminal, making the process smooth and efficient.
