Barcola transfer saga differs from Isak
Paul F asked if the Bradley Barcola situation resembles Alexander Isak's drawn-out transfer last year. Doyle notes key differences: Barcola hasn't downed tools at Paris Saint-Germain and was on the bench for the UEFA Super Cup win over Aston Villa. His fitness is not a concern, having played in the World Cup less than a month ago.
The main issue is the high cost, with Liverpool unwilling to meet PSG's valuation, similar to last year's negotiations with Newcastle over Isak. While a late arrival isn't ideal, Barcola could hit the ground running. Transfer sagas are common, and Liverpool have usually avoided deadline scrambles, as seen with Jeremy Jacquet, Victor Munoz, and loan arrival Ronald Araujo.
More signings needed
James asked how many players Liverpool need to sign. Doyle believes they still need two forwards and a defensive midfielder, the latter only if one of the current engine room options departs, with Curtis Jones most likely given his contract expires in 12 months. Harvey Elliott and Wataru Endo are in similar positions.
A right winger is essential, though Barcola predominantly plays on the left, where new signing Munoz operates. This raises questions about Cody Gakpo's future and Rio Ngumoha's role, or if Barcola is seen as a right-winger. At least one more high-profile deal is expected, but further moves may depend on player departures.
FSG's future and injury returns
Red 1985 asked if FSG are planning an exit. Doyle says every business has an exit strategy, and FSG are no different, but there's no indication they're selling soon. FSG chiefs John Henry and Tom Werner are both 76, and the consortium could be a step towards eventual transition, though they aren't handing over the keys just yet.
Alex asked about Conor Bradley, Hugo Ekitike, and Giovanni Leoni. None have set return timelines, but Ekitike has targeted Boxing Day, though his Achilles injury may keep him out until next season. Bradley has been out since early January, and Liverpool are cautious with the right-back. Leoni is closer to first-team training after almost a year out but will see limited minutes before Christmas.
Salah replacement approach
Emmanuel Ademu asked about replacing Mohamed Salah. Doyle says the Barcola pursuit addresses this, though he's mostly a left winger. There's no point in a like-for-like replacement given Salah was a one-off.
