Fitbit is back with a surprisingly affordable new way to monitor your heart, sleep, and overall health. The Google-owned company has unveiled the Fitbit Air, a new tracker priced at less than £90.
Design and Features
Unlike previous Fitbit models, the Air does not feature a screen. Instead, it resembles popular Whoop bands, strapping to the wrist like a fashion accessory. This design choice means it lacks features such as message reading, on-device heart rate checks, and exercise stats display, but it offers significant advantages in comfort and battery life.
Google claims the Fitbit Air is rated more comfortable than leading competitors, thanks to its bracelet-style strap. The device promises up to a week of battery life on a single charge, with fast charging providing one day of power in just five minutes. A new magnetic charger with bi-directional technology eliminates the need to worry about orientation when charging.
Health Monitoring
Despite its minimalistic look, the Fitbit Air retains core fitness tracking capabilities. It monitors nightly sleep, activity levels, daily exercise, and heart rate. It can also detect conditions such as atrial fibrillation (AFib) and alert users via irregular heart rhythm notifications. Internal sensors include an optical heart rate monitor, a 3-axis accelerometer, a gyroscope, red and infrared sensors for oxygen saturation, and a temperature sensor.
Since there is no screen, all data is sent directly to a smartphone, where the Google Health Coach provides an overall health picture. The device is water-resistant up to 50 meters and will be available in four colours: Obsidian, Fog, Berry, and Lavender.
Pricing and Availability
The Fitbit Air will go on sale at a price of £84.99, making it an accessible option for those seeking a comfortable and straightforward fitness tracker.
