Elliot Anderson is on the verge of completing a £116m move to Manchester City, a reward for his 'all-in' attitude according to a former Newcastle United academy coach. The midfielder, who starred for England at the World Cup, will undergo a medical early next week after City's initial bids were rejected.
Former Coach Praises Attitude
Stephen Harrison, who worked with Anderson at Newcastle's academy, told Chronicle Live: "When I had Elliot, there was a game at Everton at academy level... the bits I saw in that game, you could see what he was going to become in terms of playing in the Premier League at some point. Elliot was always all-in... he was giving his everything in every single session and every single game."
Anderson, a product of Wallsend Boys Club, progressed through Newcastle's youth system and impressed on loan at Bristol Rovers in 2021/22 before breaking into the first team. He was sold to Nottingham Forest for £35m in 2024 due to Newcastle's Profit and Sustainability Rules, a move that now looks to have launched his career at the highest level.
Record Transfer
City's initial £116m offer was accepted, though Newcastle will not benefit as they failed to include a sell-on clause in the deal with Forest. The transfer is set to be one of the biggest in Premier League history. Anderson will focus on England's final group game against Panama before completing the move.
Harrison's New Role
Harrison, meanwhile, has joined former Newcastle defender Mike Williamson as assistant coach at National League North club South Shields. He left his role in Middlesbrough's academy to take up the position, saying: "The way he sees the game, we are very aligned... I want to be part of the project and move this club forward."
