Arsenal face a bill of at least £75 million if they are serious about signing Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United this summer. The Brazilian midfielder has reportedly told Newcastle he wishes to leave Tyneside for the Gunners, with L'Equipe claiming he has reached a personal agreement on a five-year deal that would keep him at the Emirates Stadium until 2031.
Newcastle's Firm Stance
No formal negotiations between the two clubs have yet taken place, and Arsenal must meet Newcastle's £75 million asking price to secure his signature for the 2026/27 season. The Athletic previously revealed that Arsenal tabled an opening bid of £55 million, which was promptly rejected given Guimaraes' pivotal role within the squad. There are indications that Arsenal could stretch their offer to £60 million, but Newcastle are holding firm on a figure £15 million higher.
Newcastle's Summer Exodus
This comes as Newcastle have already seen several key figures depart St James' Park over the past fortnight. Anthony Gordon completed a £69 million switch to Barcelona shortly after the summer transfer window opened, while Sandro Tonali moved to Tottenham Hotspur for £100 million as manager Roberto De Zerbi continues to overhaul his squad following last season's 17th-place Premier League finish.
Arsenal's Transfer Activity So Far
Arsenal have had a relatively subdued start to the transfer window, having secured Piero Hincapie on a permanent basis for £34.5 million after an impressive loan spell from Bayer Leverkusen. The Gunners have also brought in Illan Meslier on a free transfer from Leeds United to serve as understudy to David Raya.
Stepping Up Pursuits
Mikel Arteta's men are now stepping up their pursuit of key targets as they look to defend their first Premier League crown in over two decades. Lutsharel Geertruida has been placed on the club's shortlist for additional right-back cover, with the RB Leipzig star having impressed during a stint with Sunderland last season. Arsenal are also believed to be targeting Club Brugge winger Christos Tzolis, who has made a considerable impression in the Belgian Pro League since joining in 2024.
