Amazon has reduced the Toshiba 32-inch HD LCD Smart Fire TV from £149 to £139, a 7% saving. The TV comes with Freely pre-installed, giving viewers access to live channels, movie purchases and an interactive TV guide without a monthly fee. Streaming apps such as Netflix and Disney+ are also available, putting it on par with Sky Glass at a much lower price.
What features does the Toshiba Fire TV include?
The Toshiba set uses a 720p LCD panel with a 60Hz refresh rate and micro dimming to help colours stand out. It also supports DTS X for what Amazon calls an "immersive sound experience". Alexa is built in, so existing smart-home devices can be linked to the TV and controlled by voice.
How does it compare with Sky Glass?
Sky Glass Air costs £309 in total, while the Sky Glass Gen 2 is £699. Both Sky models offer 4K resolution, Dolby Audio or Dolby Atmos, and a built-in soundbar depending on the version. Sky also lets customers pay from £6 a month. The Toshiba TV is significantly cheaper, though its resolution is limited to 720p.
Another low-cost option on Amazon is the Xiaomi TV F 32, priced at £119. It also includes Dolby Audio and Freely for live programming.
