Air Fryer Steak: A Surprising Success
Air fryers have become a staple in many kitchens, but cooking a steak in one might seem unconventional. Nicola Croal, a lifestyle writer, decided to test the trend after hearing online chatter about air-fried steak. She purchased an 8oz rib eye steak from Aldi and was proven wrong about her skepticism.
Preparation and Cooking Process
Before cooking, Croal let the steak sit at room temperature, then seasoned it with rock salt, pepper, and extra virgin olive oil. She set her air fryer to 200°C and cooked the steak for three minutes on each side, without preheating. For a medium-rare result, she suggests slightly reducing the total six-minute cooking time.
During cooking, Croal was initially concerned when the first side remained pink, but both sides turned out perfectly after the full six minutes. The convenience of cooking sides simultaneously and easy cleanup were major advantages.
Results and Verdict
After resting, the steak was juicy and pink inside, tasting indistinguishable from a pan-cooked steak. Croal concluded that the air fryer method is hassle-free and plans to use it again. She advises others not to knock it until they try it.
