A savvy shopper has discovered that a £5 painting bought from a charity shop could be worth up to £400. Chris, a part-time reseller who shares his finds on TikTok, spotted the artwork while browsing a box of paintings in a local charity shop.
Despite not researching the piece in the shop, his instincts told him it was worth more than the £5 price tag. Upon returning home, he identified the artist as Duncan MacGregor, known for his seascape paintings, and found that similar works had sold on eBay for between £300 and £400.
Chris plans to list the painting for around £200 to £300, calling it 'not a bad find for a fiver'. The video of his discovery attracted numerous likes and comments praising the artwork.
Experts suggest that factors such as the artist's prominence, authenticity, condition, and size can significantly influence the value of such finds. This story highlights the potential treasures lurking in charity shops for eagle-eyed shoppers.
