Mum Builds £2,000 Monthly Business Working Just Three Hours Daily
Liv Needham, a 27-year-old mother from Kent, has revealed how she transformed selling unwanted household items into a profitable enterprise generating up to £2,000 monthly while working only three hours each day. What began as a simple decluttering exercise during her pregnancy in June 2024 has evolved into a specialist reselling operation that provides both financial freedom and personal fulfillment.
From Pregnancy Decluttering to Professional Reselling
Liv Needham started her reselling journey when expecting her son, recognizing she had "way too much stuff in the house and needed to make room for a baby." She began posting items on platforms like Vinted and Facebook Marketplace, earning nearly £1,000 within her first three weeks simply by selling possessions she no longer required. This initial success revealed an opportunity to create additional income while caring for her newborn.
"I was so desperate to be a mum – we had a very long journey of getting there, we ended up doing IVF – but I didn't want to lose myself by not having a hobby," Liv explained. "I wanted something for me, aside from looking after my little boy. I wanted something that made me feel excited, made me feel like I had motivation, and I just had that fire in my belly to start something new and to see how far I could take it."
The Evolution to a Thriving Business Model
After welcoming her son in November 2024, Liv transitioned from selling personal belongings to establishing a proper business. She initially scoured car boot sales and charity shops for profitable items, carving out a niche in premium branded menswear and womenswear from labels including Nike, North Face and Patagonia.
However, the demands of motherhood soon necessitated a more efficient approach. "The baby needed feeding every two hours, I couldn't be traipsing around the shops," she explained. "So I needed to find another solution for me to be able to get stock in, to be able to make money, to be able to sell without it taking me loads of time."
The Wholesale Solution That Saved Time
Liv discovered the Fleek wholesale app through TikTok, where she shares her reselling adventures as @thelivneedham. The platform allowed her to purchase exact bundles of items from suppliers worldwide, eliminating the uncertainty of blind shopping.
"My favourite thing about Fleek is that you can buy exact bundles... so it's not blind shopping where you might get something good, but actually 90% of it is rubbish," Liv noted. "You know exactly what is in there."
This wholesale approach proved transformative, enabling her to accumulate 20 items within 20 minutes rather than spending two hours at charity shops to find just three pieces. "It was a big time-saving hack for me in terms of being a mum with a newborn, demanding baby," she added.
The Flexible Daily Routine
Liv now dedicates approximately two to three hours daily to her reselling venture, utilizing nap times and evenings when her husband returns from work. During these periods, she photographs products, creates listings, and produces TikTok content.
"I think the flexibility of it and the ability to take it as far as you want: If you want it just to be a little £50 extra a month, or if you want it to be £1,000 extra a month, you've got control of how much time and energy you put into it to be able to scale it," Liv emphasized.
Financial Impact and Future Plans
Currently generating between £1,000 and £2,000 profit monthly, with particularly strong earnings during the Christmas period, Liv is using her reselling income to fund a second round of IVF treatment as she hopes to expand her family.
Reflecting on her entrepreneurial background – having previously built a sales and marketing consultancy with her husband while managing Airbnb properties – Liv admitted she was "really surprised at how much I could make through things that I just had lying around the house."
Three Essential Tips for Aspiring Resellers
For those considering launching their own reselling business, Liv offers three key pieces of guidance drawn from her experience:
- Invest in presentation: "Do your research. You don't need to be listing things for £2, £3. You can get so much more for your items if you make them look really well presented in your photographs."
- Diversify stock sources: "Venture out into sourcing your stock from as many different places as possible – from your own house, from friends and family, from looking in charity shops and going to car boot sales, looking into wholesale."
- Engage with online communities: "Document your reselling adventures on TikTok and become part of the online communities. The opportunities that can come your way, the communities that you can become involved in from doing that, makes it so much more than just making a bit of extra money."
Liv's journey demonstrates that with minimal initial investment and flexible time commitment, reselling can provide substantial supplementary income. "You don't need any skills... you don't need a really big outlay of money to be able to get started in it," she concluded. "You can literally start with what's in your house."
