Manchester United and Barcelona are set to reopen negotiations next week on Marcus Rashford’s future, aiming to construct a permanent deal. An agreement is in place for Barcelona to buy the forward for €30m, but the Catalan club reportedly want to revisit terms due to a restricted budget.
Rashford’s Stellar Season at Barcelona
Rashford has enjoyed a successful season at Camp Nou, scoring a stunning free-kick in the victory over Real Madrid that secured the LaLiga title. The 28-year-old is keen to stay at Barcelona after winning a league title, but there is a possibility he returns to Manchester United in July.
United’s Preference for a Sale
The Old Trafford hierarchy would prefer to sell Rashford as they look to rebuild the squad elsewhere, particularly in midfield. However, another loan deal remains a possibility. Bayern Munich are also monitoring the situation, while Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta likes Rashford as a player. Arsenal have a list of potential left forward targets as a main priority for the summer, but any deal would depend on opportunity.
Complex Negotiations Ahead
The complexities of the situation mean negotiations could continue for some time, potentially late into the transfer window. Former manager Ruben Amorim was previously seen as an obstacle to Rashford’s future at Old Trafford due to his lack of use of the player, but sources indicate the club empowered that decision. Other figures in the hierarchy feel it is time to move on, a stance justified by Rashford’s resurgence in Spain.
Rashford’s preference is to stay at Barcelona or join a club competitive at Champions League level. A return to Aston Villa is currently not considered an option.
