A unique property in Stannington, Sheffield, has hit the market, featuring a fully working fish and chip shop in the front room. The four-bedroom semi-detached house, listed on Purple Bricks for £300,000, comes with a food seller's license and has been serving the local community for over 40 years.
Sam Lund, 50, is selling the home she moved into in 2007 with her late husband John. Originally from Lowestoft in Suffolk, the couple set up the chippy and became a staple in the neighbourhood. Following John's death from cancer in 2018, Sam remarried and now plans to start a new life on a narrow boat with her husband Stephen.
The property boasts a private back garden, off-street parking, and stunning views across the Rivelin Valley. The fish and chip shop, which has been running for over four decades, is attached to the house and includes a small restaurant area. Sam noted that the next nearest chippy is over half a mile away, making it a fixture in the area.
Sam described the sense of community the business brought, saying, 'It is a brilliant way to get to know people in a new area. The people are lovely round here and it is very satisfying to be doing something that people love.' She added that running the shop has become harder due to rising costs, but seeing customers queue on Friday nights made it worthwhile.
Stephen joked about the setup, saying, 'It's like a four bed house with a large deep fat fryer in the living room. Of course it's not literally in the living room but it's always an option when you're doing the dinner.' The new owners could choose to convert the shop into a home office or playroom, but the food retail license remains.
