Sheffield United Pursue Return for Kalvin Phillips
Blades Keen on Phillips Return

Sheffield United are actively working on a deal to bring Kalvin Phillips back to Bramall Lane. The 30-year-old midfielder, who is under contract with Manchester City until 2026, spent the second half of last season on loan with the Blades, making just three appearances before a knee injury cut his stint short.

Phillips' Difficult Spell at Bramall Lane

Phillips' loan at Sheffield United was marred by misfortune. After only three outings, his last appearance came in the derby against Sheffield Wednesday, where he was sent off. Once his suspension ended, a knee injury prevented him from playing again. The former England international, capped 31 times, was desperate to make an impact but struggled with match sharpness after limited game time in recent seasons.

Blades Boss Chris Wilder's Admiration

Speaking to BBC Radio Sheffield, Wilder expressed his desire to keep Phillips: "He'll have a lot of people still after him. We've brought a really good pro in. He was unlucky with his injury and he's not played as much as he wanted to play. I spoke to him and said we'd love to be an option for you, your agent and your parent club if that is a possibility. He certainly ticks the box in terms of personality and characteristics, off the pitch and on it."

Wilder added: "If there's an opportunity I'm sure we'll try and explore that one."

Phillips' Career Since Leaving Leeds

Phillips joined Manchester City from Leeds United for £45 million in 2022 on a six-year contract. Since then, he has made only 16 Premier League appearances for City, including loan spells at West Ham and Ipswich before his move to Sheffield United. In total, he has made 46 league appearances since joining City almost four years ago.

Wolves, now in the Championship, also expressed interest in Phillips back in January, but Sheffield United appear to be leading the chase for his signature as they aim for promotion.
