Tom Bedford, 31, posted an advert for his window cleaning business in a local group covering Mitcham, south London, and was inundated with comments comparing him to David Beckham and other celebrities, despite the post attracting 1.2 million views but no new work.
The advert was a fake Ring doorbell-style picture, posed as an irate post about a 'thief' who had stolen all their moss and weeds, intended to promote his company, Better View, a home exterior and window cleaning firm.
Viral Response
Instead of receiving job enquiries, Tom's comments were filled with responses saying he looked like David Beckham, Ryan Gosling, Tom Hardy, Harry Kane, Luke Shaw and Gary Barlow. Tom admitted he is "flattered" by the attention.
He said: "I don't think I have had a single job from it and it is on 1.2 million views. I have had quite a few posts go viral over the years but I didn't think this would be like that. It is quite a shock."
Business Impact
Tom, from Mitcham, said he had seen similar adverts from other local businesses and decided to try his luck. He edited himself into a doorbell camera-style photograph and shared it across several local groups with a humorous caption.
He added: "I am flattered. I have been compared to Harry Kane and Gary Barlow a lot as well as Luke Shaw. Those seem to be the most common ones. I am glad I didn't put my mobile on it. There are quite a few people asking for my mobile number now."
Despite the viral attention, Tom, who started his business eight years ago, revealed he has not gained any new work from the post.
