Woman Finds Charity Receipt Inside £4 Vinted Book

A woman who purchased a £4 book on Vinted was shocked to discover a charity shop receipt inside, revealing the seller had bought it for just £1.50 a week earlier.

Shan, a TikTok user who shares book recommendations, posted a frustrated video urging resellers to be more discreet. She said: "If you're going to buy stuff from charity shops to resell on Vinted, then don't leave the receipt inside the item."

The book in question was a Doctor Who title, 'Doctor Who: The Day She Saved the Doctor: Four Stories from the TARDIS,' a collection of short stories published in 2018. Shan explained she had bought the book thinking she was getting a bargain, but the receipt made her feel short-changed.

Mixed Reactions from Viewers

Not all commenters agreed with Shan's frustration. One wrote: "It's worth as much as you are willing to pay. I don't see the problem," suggesting she should be satisfied with her purchase.

Shan responded: "Yeah, it's not that serious," though she remained disappointed that the receipt had been left inside. Another commenter said: "I see the point, though, don't leave the receipt in."

Some were more critical of the reseller: "I think reselling is totally fine, but the actual receipt would send me!" Another added: "Leaving the receipt is dumb, but reselling has done its good function, getting a niche item into the possession of someone who really wants it."

Tips for Selling Books on Vinted

To avoid similar issues, sellers should follow best practices. First, list whether the book is paperback or hardback and note its condition. Second, photograph every angle, including the spine, and mention any damage. Third, most standard paperbacks sell for £1 to £3, though sought-after titles can command higher prices. Finally, always wrap books in bubble wrap or cardboard before placing them in a padded envelope to prevent damage during transit.
