Waitrose has issued an urgent recall for one of its popular Indian takeaway meals after discovering it contains undeclared allergens. The supermarket giant warned that the product could pose a serious health risk to customers with certain allergies.
Which Product Is Affected?
The recall involves Waitrose's Indian Takeaway Chicken Tikka Masala, sold in 400g packs with a use-by date of 10th May 2025. The product failed to list milk and mustard on its packaging, both of which are known allergens.
What Should Customers Do?
Waitrose has advised customers who have purchased the affected product to:
- Stop consuming it immediately if they have allergies to milk or mustard.
- Return the item to their nearest Waitrose store for a full refund.
- Contact Waitrose customer service for further assistance.
Why Is This Recall Critical?
Undeclared allergens can lead to severe allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, which can be life-threatening. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has classified this recall as a precautionary measure to protect consumers.
Waitrose has apologised for any inconvenience caused and assured customers that they are working with suppliers to prevent similar incidents in the future.
