Wagamama Removes Fan Favourite Dishes From Menu

Wagamama has updated its menu, introducing new items such as Korean fried chicken, tonkatsu pork bao buns, and gochujang pork belly ramen. However, the changes have led to the removal of several popular dishes, including plant-based options like vegan chicken, vegan K-dogs, and the Vegatsu – a vegan alternative to the chain's signature katsu curry.

Fans have expressed disappointment on social media, with many lamenting the loss of the Vegatsu. A TikTok video by vegan content creator Sophie highlighted the reduction in vegan options, noting that Wagamama was once the first UK chain to offer equal parts plant-based and meat dishes. Commenters echoed her dismay, with one stating: 'Getting rid of vegatsu seems strange. Surely it was their biggest vegan seller?'

Despite the removals, Wagamama insists that its top-selling vegan dishes remain on the menu. The chain continues to offer a wide range of meat-free options, including edamame, yasai vegetable gyoza, bang bang cauliflower, yasai katsu curry, tofu firecracker, pulled shiitake donburi, and a new vegan katsu udon. All three new dessert bao dishes are also vegan-friendly.

A Wagamama spokesperson said: 'We made a number of updates to our menu in October, launching several new items... As part of this refresh, we also removed a small number of dishes... We continue to offer a wide range of vegan options. All of our most popular vegan dishes remain on the menu, with our top five vegan dishes accounting for 78% of all vegan sales.'
