The Trafford Centre has confirmed the closure of its Vans store, while revealing that new brands are set to arrive at the Greater Manchester shopping destination.
The American label, established in 1966, has shut its doors at the centre. Known for its distinctive waffle-pattern rubber sole footwear and clothing inspired by skateboarding, surfing and streetwear culture, the store also sold outerwear, shirts and accessories.
On the Vans website, the Upper Regent Crescent outlet is now listed as "closed", with the shopping centre confirming the closure today.
Products still available
Several of the brand's products will remain available at other retailers within the Trafford Centre, including Footasylum and the "world's largest" JD Sports, which opened in June last year and covers 41,000sq/ft, reports the Manchester Evening News.
Confirming the exit, a Trafford Centre spokesperson said: "We're always working hard to bring new and exciting brands to Trafford Centre, offering our visitors the best possible experience.
"We're in discussion with a number of retailers who are keen to have a store at Trafford Centre. We'll be in a position to announce new brands soon, including a store that's taking over the former Vans unit."
Recent and upcoming arrivals
Earlier this week, the Trafford Centre welcomed Manchester pizzeria Forbici, praised by chef Marco Pierre White and rapper Example. It marks their second restaurant in Greater Manchester. Opening today (August 5), the pizzeria gave away 1,000 free pizzas.
This year, Shake Shack, Bunsik, and Frurt have also opened at the centre, while the £6m all-pink P. Louise City store opened last month. A pop-up from jacket potato favourites SpudBros was recently hosted.
This week, the Trafford Centre will hold a special Emergency Services Day featuring around 50 emergency service vehicles and characters from children's TV shows. Until the end of August, a giant summer fair with a beach is also on site.
Later this year, new stores from Ted Baker and The Entertainer will arrive, and the Disney Store is set to return with a new set-up inside Selfridges.
Vans has been approached for comment.
