Tyneside pub closes for six-figure refurbishment

The Bamburgh pub in South Shields has closed for a major refurbishment backed by a six-figure investment from owner Greene King. The pub, located on Bamburgh Avenue, shut its doors on October 12 and is expected to reopen later this month, though no official date has been announced.

Prime Location and Improvements

Greene King is making the most of the pub's prime position on the Coast Road, just metres from the Great North Run finishing line. The work includes improvements to both the inside and outside of the building, with modern comforts being added to boost the pub's appeal.

The dog-friendly establishment already holds a 4.3-star rating on Google reviews, and the company hopes the investment will attract even better feedback.

Nearby Attractions and Future Plans

The pub sits just a mile from Sandhaven Beach, one of the North East's busiest beaches, especially during summer. The autumn refresh is intended to leave the pub in good standing for the coming year.

In announcing the closure, Greene King said the pub will remain a popular destination for friends, families, and sports fans, offering a range of food and drink options. Customers can catch Sky Sports and TNT Sports while visiting, and can browse menus and book ahead via the Greene King app or the Bamburgh's website.

Greene King operates over 2,500 pubs, restaurants, and hotels across England, Wales, and Scotland, with dozens of locations in the North East.
