A new sushi brand is set to arrive on Ranelagh Street in Liverpool city centre. The Sushi Co will open its first restaurant in the area at the site previously occupied by Cinnabon, the American bakery chain that closed last year after opening in 2021.
Founded in 2022, The Sushi Co specialises in freshly prepared sushi made in open 'live kitchens' where customers can watch chefs at work. The brand has grown rapidly through company-owned and franchised outlets, and has plans to expand its UK estate with dozens of new locations.
Other newcomers on Ranelagh Street
This month also saw Merigo Piri Piri replace Burger and Sauce a few doors up from The Sushi Co. The fast-casual restaurant specialises in flame-grilled piri piri chicken, burgers, and rice boxes.
Also new to the street this year is Popeyes. Founded in New Orleans in 1972, the fast food giant launched in the UK in 2021 and added more than 45 new restaurants in 2025, bringing the total to over 100 locations nationwide. Popeyes already operates in Speke, Kirkby, Bromborough, and on Lord Street in Liverpool. The newest venue replaced Go Outdoors Express, which closed on 10 January 2026.
