Supermarket giant Tesco has unveiled a series of dramatic price cuts on festive food and drink, offering last-minute Christmas deals to shoppers across the UK. The promotions, which include savings of up to 50%, are designed to help families stock up for the celebrations, but come with a significant condition for customers.
The Clubcard Catch for Shoppers
While the discounts appear generous at first glance, the offers are exclusively available to Tesco Clubcard holders. This means shoppers without the loyalty card will miss out on the slashed prices, which cover a wide range of Christmas dinner essentials, sweet treats, and party favourites. The deals are available in large stores until Christmas Day, December 25th.
What's Included in the Festive Savings?
The range of discounted items is extensive, targeting key components of the traditional Christmas spread. Notable reductions include:
- Tesco Finest mince pies: Now half price at £1.50, down from £3.00.
- Quality Street chocolate refill bag (685g): Reduced by 44% to £5.00 from £9.00.
- Baileys (1 litre bottle): A 47% cut sees the price drop to £12.00 from £22.50.
- Tesco Finest roast potatoes with confit garlic: Halved in price to £1.50 from £3.00.
In a particularly striking move, Tesco has also implemented massive discounts on vegetables, with seven festive essentials priced at just 15p for Clubcard members. This represents a saving of up to 89%. The list includes All Rounder potatoes (2kg), carrots (1kg), Brussels sprouts, parsnips (500g), swede, red cabbage, and broccoli (375g).
Competition and Household Essentials
Tesco's promotions come as rival supermarket Morrisons also launches aggressive price cuts. Morrisons has reduced selected traditional Christmas vegetables to just 5p for More Card holders, with the offer running until December 25th and limiting shoppers to a maximum of eight items from the selection.
Beyond festive food, Tesco is also trimming costs on household staples. A 12-pack of Duracell Plus AA batteries has been reduced from £12.00 to £8.50, again for Clubcard members only.
A Tesco spokesperson stated: "With Christmas just days away, Tesco is helping customers get ready for festive celebrations... until Christmas Day, Clubcard members can enjoy savings of up to 89% on festive veg." The last-minute deals provide a final opportunity for budget-conscious shoppers to reduce the cost of their Christmas celebrations, provided they have the required loyalty card.
