Major supermarkets including Tesco, Morrisons, Asda, Waitrose, Sainsbury's and M&S have issued urgent recalls for 13 fruit pack products after Salmonella was detected in tests. The bacteria, which can cause diarrhea, fever, nausea, and vomiting, was found on apples and kiwis used in Prepworld packs sold at these stores.
The Food Standards Agency warned of a 'possible presence of Salmonella' and advised customers not to eat the affected products. Instead, shoppers should return the packs to the store where they were purchased for a full refund. Point of sale notices will be displayed in all relevant retail outlets explaining the recall.
Salmonella outbreaks are often linked to raw or undercooked poultry, meat, eggs, unpasteurised milk and dairy products, contaminated fruits and vegetables, or contact with infected pets. Anyone experiencing symptoms is advised to stay away from work, school, or nursery until at least 48 hours after symptoms stop to prevent spreading the infection.
This recall follows a recent alert by the Food Standards Agency regarding Krispy Kreme doughnuts due to undeclared hazelnuts. The agency regularly issues product recalls to ensure public safety.
